Armonia is a leading conservation organization in Bolivia whose mission is to conserve Bolivia’s birds and their habitats creating a country where wildlife and people can thrive. Armonía is creating nature reserves across Bolivia to save the country’s wilderness and wildlife from destruction. Working in collaboration with three Quechua communities, Armonia established a community-run ecotourism project at the reserve, where bird watchers, wildlife photographers, and nature lovers can become immersed in the beauty of the Andean valleys. The profits from Armonia’s ecotourism efforts are shared equally by the communities. Armonia is helping them further diversify their income further through honey and papaya production.

Armonia operates two lodges in Bolivia, each with a unique perspective of the varied landscapes across this magnificent country. Both locations are excellent for nature lovers, with the Barba Azul Reserve set in the tall grasses of the Beni Savanna and the Red-Fronted Macaw Reserve situated with spectacular sheer cliffs of the Andean valleys as a backdrop.

Barba Azul Nature Reserve The Barba Azul Reserve’s mosaic of palm islands stretches across 27,180 acres (11,000 hectares) and are home to a wealth of endangered and endemic wildlife – including the Jaguar, Puma, Maned Wolf, Ocelot, Giant Anteater, Black Howler Monkey, and Crowned Eagle. Red-fronted Macaw Nature Reserve

Red-fronted Macaw Nature Reserve The reserve attracts nature lovers and birders, as the spectacular sheer cliffs of the Andean valleys provide a backdrop to a unique wildlife watching experience. Flocks of charismatic Red-fronted Macaws nest in the cliffs, giving tourists the rare opportunity for a close encounter with an Endangered species found nowhere else on Earth. Travel Documents

Passport: To enter Bolivia, you will need a passport valid for 6 months after the date of entry.
Visas: Bolivia requires a visa for most travelers to enter the country. Check the visa requirements at the Bolivia Foreign Ministry Website.
Health Insurance Documents: Be sure to bring your insurance card and copies of any travel insurance polices you purchase for the trip.
Travel Advisories: It’s also a good idea to check any travel advisories issued for Bolivia by visiting the U.S. Department of State website.

Vaccinations

When travelling abroad, be sure you are up to date on routine vaccinations. Additional vaccines may also be required based on where you are going, how long you are staying, what you will be doing. Check with your healthcare provider at least one month prior to departure to ensure you have all the recommended vaccinations and medications for travel to Bolivia.

Also check the CDC website for the up-to-date advice on health precautions for Bolivia. You may be required to get vaccinated for hepatitis A, typhoid, and yellow-fever when travelling to certain parts of the country.

Be Aware
You will be in a hot tropical climate where you can expect many bugs and critters like mosquitos, ticks, spiders and chiggers. This is to warn you as some people can react strongly and even be allergic to insect bites. Make sure you bring repellent and antihistamines to be prepared for sudden and unexpected physical reactions. It is also advisable to wear long trousers and long sleeves to prevent extensive bites.

Hiking in savanna and cerrado habitat can be difficult as there is little shade to protect you from the sun. Make sure you come well prepared with sunscreen, hats and other measures to protect you from the heat.

Electricity

In Bolivia, the standard power plugs and sockets are of type A and B. Be sure to get the right adapter before you go!

Watch out! In Bolivia more than one voltage is being used (115 / 230 V). It can depend on the region, the city or even the hotel which voltage you will come across. Be sure you had a converter if your chargers and appliances are not compatible.
